Pre-Pointe Assessment

Readiness for Pointe Shoes

A pre pointe assessment should be carried out 6-12 months prior to a dancer going onto pointe to assess their readiness for pointe shoes. A pre pointe assessment is designed to determine if a dancer’s body is ready for the physical demands to beginning pointe work to avoid the likelihood of lower limb and foot injuries.

Pre pointe assessment will include:

Lower limb and core strength

Foot shape and posture

Previous injuries and injury prevention.

Experience and technique

Turnout

Flexibility and ankle range of motion required to go onto pointe

Based on your assessment results a targeted plan involving exercises and stretches will be advised to reach your goal of pointe.
